Handcrafting
Why handcrafted jewellery?
What would you rather choose? A sip from a gurgling crystal clear stream or bottled water? A whiff of gentle mountain breeze or the artificial air of an air-conditioner? An artist’s original painting or several prints of it?
It is the same difference between handcrafted jewellery and machine-made ones. Hand-crafted jewellery takes a lot of special attention to make. It is usually one of a kind.
In India, it is an art that has been handed down from generation to generation. Each generation adding its own expertise, its own value, to enhance it. Besides, the wonderful thing about handcrafting is that no two pieces can be exactly the same, even if it is intended to. As it is made by hand, there are bound to be small differences. In any case, there’s a less likelihood that too many pieces of the same kind are made. This makes each piece truly unique. Indian jewellery is synonymous with exquisite beauty…because of their handcrafted beauty. Over time machines have been introduced to increase quantity, but they have killed the craftsman and his traditional skills…wiping out generations of creative knowledge.
At Lilaras, we seek to keep the artisan and his art alive by keeping handcrafting alive.
